BLACK BEAR HUNTING WITH K.O.C.

Alberta is blessed with a two bear limit on any Black Bear hunt. This allows for hunters to have extremely high success rates and a great percentage of harvesting a Pope and Young or Boone and Crocket bear. Many of our outfitter ‘s boast a 30 - 40% color phase ratio. Black Bears are our easiest trophy to obtain.

Our outfitters offer three methods of hunting bears in Alberta:
1. Baited hunts - this is the most common method used with high success usually running around 160% plus. This hunt is generally done in the spring when pleasant weather can be expected with temperatures ranging from 40 – 75 degrees F.

2. Spot and stalk - this is a more challenging hunt, but success rates are often as high as baited hunts and can be done in fall or spring. Methods consist of running rivers with riverboats and glassing the riverbanks. We also use ATVs to check new cut blocks and fresh clover leases or alfalfa cut lines. These are great spots to catch bears feeding.

3. Baited or spot and stalk as a combo- this can be done in the fall with a moose or deer hunt for a very reasonable price. If you so desire we can add a bear to an already booked hunt and make it a 10-day instead of 6-day hunt.

Prices vary from each method to each outfitter we represent. Here is an average of what can be expected for a cost of a bear hunt. This is definitely our most affordable hunt.

Spot and stalk in Spring or Fall - hunts are right around the same as listed for baited hunts. We always have a few last minute deals for a great spring spot and stalk hunt if our outfitters didn’t sell all of their permits. A person is able to usually get two bears last minute here for the price of one!

Combo in early Fall - A bear hunt can be added to most of our moose hunts. You will also have an option to extend a hunt to a ten-day hunt if you wish.
